The Lolli Attack

This purpose of this post is to show you the result of the opening’s analysis of our previous lesson. This is one of the reasons that all the moves are taken from the ICOfY database instead of my own database.
The result is an Opening analysis of the Lolli Attack. You can compare it with the [...]

How to create an opening analysis?

This lesson is based on the use of ChessDB, but for other Database programs similar approaches can be used. I suppose that in the future some tutorials will be added to the ChessDB site, so make sure that you also check this site.
I will give a very short explanation and you probably need the program [...]

ChessDB Opening report

As mentioned before ChessDB can be used to generate opening reports. This post gives only a first indication of the power of this functionality.
I turned off almost all the report sections, but if you generate the report by yourself you can adjust the report in such a way that it shows the information that interests [...]

A Lazy Player’s Guide to the Scotch Gambit

Some time ago I have visited a website with the title A Lazy Player’s Guide to the Scotch Gambit, but it seems that this site has disappeared.
This is a pity because the site gave a nice summary of the main lines of this opening, that can lead to variations of the Two Knights Defence and the Giuoco Piano, as well as the nice Lolli Attack of one of the other lessons. It is a nice choice of an opening system for players who like sharp, double-edged positions and it’s easy to learn the basic ideas. It didn’t cover everything, but it included more than an average club player needs to know. Now I’ll try to produce a similar post about the 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 exd4 4.Bc4 Bc5 variation of this Scotch Gambit.

Fried Liver Attack

The Fried Liver attack is a very nice opening for beginners. It enables a lot of opportunities and is a decent opening unlike the Scholar’s mate attempts that a lot of beginners are playing.

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 The two Knights Defence

4.Ng5 This is an immediate attack at Black’s weakest square f7, but White is also moving a piece in the opening twice.
Still it is a rather nice attack and Black has only the move 4…d5 to avoid losing the pawn on f7.
